Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is this a franchise?
No, you are purchasing a license to use the Camp MakeBelieve program as part of your own business. There are no requirements or conditions on use of the materials other than the limitations on use of our trademarks and copyrights.
I already have a business name - do I have to use the Camp MakeBelieve name?
The Camp MakeBelieve name is trademarked and may not be used as your business name. You may acknowledge the name of the program in your advertising as in "Jane Doe's Afterschool Activities featuring the Camp MakeBelieve 8-Step Program for developing social and emotional learning", but you are prohibited from calling your program "Jane Doe's Camp MakeBelieve".
Is there a specific type of building or facility that I will need to run the program?
No, all you need is sufficient space to allow for creative activities. A classroom or other space such as a church hall, office, or even a family room can work as long as it can accommodate the children, the instructor and possibly an assistant. You will have to check with your own state and local regulations to ensure you are compliant with local laws and ordinances.
Is this program useful for children with Autism or Asperger’s Disorder?
All children can benefit from the techniques learned in Camp MakeBelieve. In fact many states now require the teaching of SEL (social and emotional learning) in the classroom. Children with Autism or Asperger’s Disorder can benefit from the program if they are functioning at a high level. This is a determination that must be made during the intake by the counselor in consultation with the parents.
Is CMB just an afterschool program?
CMB's guidebook and activities can be modified for use in the classroom. Each block can be taught in one 1 Ѕ hour session or in three to five shorter sessions. Because you are buying the license for use (as opposed to a franchise), how you structure the program is totally up to you.
Do I have to buy workbooks for the children?
In our government program (available to schools and other publicly funded institutions) we provide printable versions of the stories without the supplemental materials. However, all other licensees must purchase one workbook for each child in each session. These books provide additional reinforcement of CMB concepts that children can read and use over and over again.
How much does it cost to run a program?
The cost for a private licensee is only about $40 per child per month; government rates are significantly less. In our experience, parents are willing to spend over $300 per month to allow their children to learn appropriate social and emotional behaviors that lead to success in academics and personal relationships. The CMB program has been running successfully for over ten years, see our testimonials section for comments from CMB licensees, professionals, parents and the children themselves.
Do I need to have liability insurance?
You should first check your state and local requirements, Camp MakeBelieve Kids does not require that you carry insurance, but you may be required to do so as part of your business license. It may be as simple as having parents signing an affidavit releasing you from all liability. In the event that you decide that you need insurance, there are many companies who write those policies, check with your insurance agent.
