Is this program useful for children with Autism or Asperger’s Disorder?
All children can benefit from the techniques learned in Camp MakeBelieve. In fact many states now require the teaching of SEL (social and emotional learning) in the classroom. Children with Autism or Asperger’s Disorder can benefit from the program if they are functioning at a high level. This is a determination that must be made during the intake by the counselor in consultation with the parents.
Is CMB just an afterschool program?
CMB's guidebook and activities can be modified for use in the classroom. Each block can be taught in one 1 ½ hour session or in three to five shorter sessions. Because you are buying the license for use (as opposed to a franchise), how you structure the program is totally up to you.
Does my child have to attend all 8 Steps of the Program?
No, but it is recommended that a child complete all eight steps of the program to receive it's full benefit. Reinforcement of concepts throughout the program help the child to process and retain the behavior.
My child's friend has been attending a Camp MakeBelieve program for about a month now. Do I have to wait another 7 months before I can enroll my child?
Children can start the program at the beginning of any module - usually at the beginning of the month. Click on "Find a Camp MakeBelieve Kids Near You" to get program schedules and information.
