April is World Autism Awareness Month
April 1 may be April Fool's Day, but April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day, and in fact the month of April is Autism Awareness Month. From World Autism Awareness Day's website: On December 18, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 62/139, tabled by the State of Qatar, which declares April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) in perpetuity. Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned, Consort of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, supported the campaign for a World Autism Awareness Day through the current 62nd UN General Assembly Session, garnering consensus support from all United Nations Member States. World Autism Awareness Day shines a bright light on autism as a growing global health crisis. WAAD activities help to increase and develop world knowledge of the autism epidemic and impart information regarding the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention. Additionally, WAAD celebrates the unique talents and skills of persons with autism and is a day when individuals with autism are warmly welcomed and embraced in community events around the globe.
Camp MakeBelieve Kids is planning to use the whole month to focus on autism related news stories and events. We have several exciting blog posts planned for the month of April, and are actively looking for ways to help and promote other organizations that help children with autism. Autism Awareness and Camp MakeBelieve KidsIf you are an organization or company that works with children with autism, or are a parent of autistic child, we'd love to hear from you! Send in a brief, 300-500 word article or testimonial and we will publish it on our website. Autism is a key component of the Camp MakeBelieve Kids program. We recognize that the parents and caregivers of a child with autism face challenges that are unimaginable for any ‘typical’ person to contemplate. Our empathy and compassion goes out to all of you courageous parents out there who have stumbled through the muck of red tape, false promises and smug reassurances in the midst of your own confusion and fear, in your struggle to get help for your child. God bless. The CMBK program has a variety of tools and activities designed to help children with autism move closer to becoming masters of self-control and self-confidence. They will rejoice in the rewards they’ll reap with peers, family, the school and the community. If you have children with autism or know any children with autism, consider investing in the award winning Camp MakeBelieve Kids social and emotional learning program. We'd love to help you and your children grow and develop powerful imaginations and self-confidence!
