Tiers of RTI ModelsRTI models generally consist of three intervention tiers each of which differ in scope and intensity. Tier 1Tier 1 interventions; have the broadest scope and are intended to meet the needs of most students in the school. For example, most schools have school-wide behavioral programs that reinforce good behavior. Schools that are more cutting edge, have a social and emotional learning as part of the everyday curriculum, or aligned with reading literacy standards. When such Tier 1 interventions are in place and implemented consistently, most students will respond to these basic interventions and not require further supports. However, for students who continue to have ongoing social, emotional, or behavioral problems, more needs to be done. Tier 2Tier 2 Response to Interventions is for a smaller group of students who have more social, emotional, behavioral deficits than their peers. Tier 2 often consists of teachers collaborating with other teachers to design more intensive interventions for the students who do not respond to basic Tier 1 interventions. When a student has been given Tier 2 interventions for a sufficient amount of time, yet fails to respond adequately, the student would then be provided with Tier 3 interventions. Tier 3Tier 3 is where deficits are examined more closely, a very specific and individualized intervention plan is created, and the interventions are administered with greater frequency, intensity, and duration than in Tier 2. Special education services are often synonymous with Tier 3 interventions, but not every student receiving Tier 3 interventions is necessarily a student with a disability. CMB Kids and RTI ModelsThe Camp MakeBelieve Kids Program will become the resource handbook for social, emotional, behavioral curriculum designed to meet the needs of students in need of interventions at the Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels. The Camp MakeBelieve Kids program was designed by a child therapist and evaluated based on 32 weeks of lessons covering 8 main topic areas. However, the program also has a built-in flexibility where lessons can be targeted based on needs of the students. School Psychologists, Special Education Teachers and other Educators can tailor the Camp MakeBelieve intervention frequency, intensity, and duration to fit Tier 2 and/or Tier 3 programming.
