The Classroom and Camp MakeBelieve KidsCamp MakeBelieve Kids is a proactive 8-step program focused on building emotionally competent youth through literacy and cooperative learning activities. This program helps children build leadership qualities and coping strategies that allow them to make positive choices and facilitate a positive learning environment. Children who participate in the Camp MakeBelieve program will acquire and demonstrate specific social and emotional learning skills in the areas of: • Peer Connections • Feelings • Boundaries • Empathy • Mood Control • Manipulation • Self-Regulation • Motivation Building Confidence in ChildrenChildren who are a part of Camp MakeBelieve develop higher self esteem and are more apt to solve their own problems. Camp MakeBelieve builds confidence in children and helps them to develop ways to appropriately express feelings so that they can find solutions to problems instead of instigating them or creating bigger ones. This program uses self-management tools to become effective problem solvers. The children learn to approach difficulties with means to look at situations from different perspectives. In the classroom, Camp MakeBelieve incorporates classroom management strategies into its curriculum to promote maximum effectiveness. As the students are empowered with the Camp MakeBelieve strategies, the number of classroom discipline issues decrease giving teachers more time to spend on instruction. The Camp MakeBelieve curriculum provides learning aids including posters and charts for teachers to refer to during class instruction and as a classroom reminder to promote positive behaviors. School Benefits of the CMB Kids ProgramSchools will benefit from students who are equipped with the skills and strategies learned from the Camp MakeBelieve program by creating a community of students who demonstrate positive behaviors. The children become equipped with the ability to recognize manipulation from others which will reduce the amount of bullying behaviors that are typically present in school settings. Students will demonstrate independence and self-advocacy skills that will enable children to be leaders in their school and classroom. Teachers can easily incorporate the program into their daily lesson-planning. The program is organized so that teachers can integrate the Camp MakeBelieve curriculum with the English Language Arts curriculum. The Camp MakeBelieve program meets the curriculum standards for English Language Arts on a daily basis. The students will benefit from learning reading and writing strategies through fun games and activities that promote positive social skills.
