Guided Imagery - Develop Self-Control Through Positive Mental PicturesTeaching Tools for Step 8: MotivationThe two guided imagery CDs are a useful teaching tool in the CMB Kids program. These imaginative stories were created especially for children, but are loved by all ages, including teenagers. The beautiful harmonious music was produced by professional musicians, specifically to accompany these stories. The stories, narrated by creator of CMB, Pamela Goldberg, begin with deep breathing exercises in a calm environment. My Kingdom and My Pot of Gold, allow children to access their imaginations while entering into a fantasy. As the mind relaxes, outside noises fade out, eyes close and feeling of calm takes over, children actively listen to the musical sounds, their own breathing and enter the guided adventure. It feels wonderful to actively visualize beauty that is part of our everyday lives. Combine these images with a make believe story, where each child is a part of the experience, exactly as they wish to be. Although children understand that they have complete control of their body and their mind, before, during and after the story, they soon realize it’s actually exciting to relax! Imagine walking not under but through a rainbow, then stumbling upon a pot of golden nuggets with special messages written on them - just for you! Or, picture floating gently on a fluffy cloud that lands in a village with a majestic castle---and discover that you are the ruler of this entire kingdom! Guided ImageryGuided imagery, also called visual imagery or visualization has been used by actors, athletes, politicians and soldiers as an intervention or tool to gain confidence or mastery over an upcoming performance or activity. The CMB Kids guided imagery stories encourage the listener to see a positive mental image or mental picture of themselves feeling loved, confident, brave and in control. As the story ends, children not only feel calm, but are motivated to take on new challenges, equipped with positive self-affirmations along with a positive mental picture of being a master of self-control and master of self-confidence. Ready to reach their full academic and personal potential. The Social and Emotional Learning Advantage for Guided Imagery:• Able to visualize self in a positive state of being • Better able to access imagination • Learns new strategy to calm self down • Promotes feeling of confidence when trying new things • Prevents premature quitting when practicing • Acts more responsible • Alternative to traditional problem solving methods
